Battle of the Alien Invaders

Project Description

Battle of the Alien Invaders was created by a team of 9 individuals over the course of 16 weeks of 15 hours a week.

 

This is a capture the flag first person shooter game created in the Unreal Engine 4. Two sides of aliens fight one another in a canyon to steal the others power core(flags).

Map Locations
  • Location A offers a one way elevated entrance into the base.

  • Location B is the only exit from the base

  • Location C is the inner most path

  • Location D is the valley

  • Location E is the vantage point

Detailed Map Paths
  • There are 3 distinct paths offering 3 distinct opportunities for the player

  • The right most path is the shortest route to and from the bases but offers the least amount of cover for the player.

  • The center path offers the most amount of cover in a valley. this path gives the player the option to traverse to the top most point of the map but does not allow you to access the inner most path.

  • The outer path offers the longest path and offers the a distinct vantage point for the player to take advantage of. This allows the player to control parts of the map providing cover for their team. The outer path also allows the player to traverse to any of the other paths.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of 2 Level Designers in designing and creating the level

  • Created initial whitebox and iterated on it to reach final version with the other level designers

  • Created props for use in game through 3DS Max, Mudbox, and Photoshop

  • Created particles and scripted for the game through the use of Photoshop, UE4 Cascade and Blueprint

Goals
  • Design a 5v5 CTF map utilizing multiple levels of elevation to take advantage of the players ability to jump high.

  • Create areas for the player to use

    • Sniper rifle

    • Grenade launcher

    • Pistol

Post-Mortem
  1. Creating a level that flows well with a jumping ability that carries the player large distances and heights. 

  2. Creating interesting cover and height levels to challenge the player to use the jump mechanic.
